On the monitor, the creature stared directly into the "camera" of the video player, which was now showing a reflection of Elias's own terrified face. The hum stopped. The physical world was out of sync with the file
When Elias first clicked it, the player opened to a black screen. There was no seeker bar, no volume control, and no "X" to close the window. For the first thirty seconds, the only sound was a low-frequency hum that vibrated the pens on his desk. Then, the image resolved.
