He looked back at the screen. The video had reached its final seconds. The woman in the yellow dress walked toward the camera. As she got closer, the grain of the film seemed to merge with the air in Elias’s room.

Elias pulled up a map. There was no such place on any official registry. He searched old maritime charts and found it—a jagged spit of land that had been reclaimed by the sea in a 1994 storm. It was only five miles from where he sat.
