Born in Tbilisi to a family of singers, Behbudov's talent was evident early on. His massive breakthrough came in 1945 when he starred as in the film Arshin Mal Alan (The Cloth Peddler). This role made him a household name across the Soviet Union and beyond, earning him the prestigious Stalin Prize in 1946. A Voice Without Borders
