Elias was a digital archiver, the kind of person who spent his nights scouring dead forums for "abandonware"—software that had been forgotten by time. He had found #1 and #2 months ago on an old Japanese imageboard. They had been strange: highly detailed 3D models of living rooms that seemed just slightly off . The windows showed a sky that was a shade of violet not found in nature, and the clocks all ticked backward. He clicked download.

As the archive extracted, his antivirus remained silent. No malware, just a single 2GB folder. Inside was an executable and a text file that simply read: “The architecture is the memory. Don’t look behind the red door.” P3D0M0M #3.rar

He realized then what "P3D0M0M" stood for:

The screen didn't go black. Instead, the webcam light on his laptop turned on. On the monitor, the 3D world vanished, replaced by a live feed of his own room. In the video, Elias saw himself sitting at his desk. And standing right behind him, reaching for his shoulder, was the avatar from the game. The notification pinged at 3:14 AM

While there is no official record of a specific story, game, or lore titled "P3D0M0M #3.rar," the filename appears to be a —likely containing 3D models or game assets—that users often find in niche creative communities .

Based on the structure of the filename, here is a short story centered on the mystery of finding such a file: The Third Fragment He had found #1 and #2 months ago

Elias launched the file. The screen flickered, then resolved into a photorealistic render of a childhood home he hadn’t thought about in twenty years. The wallpaper, the smell of digital dust, even the specific way the floorboard creaked when his avatar moved—it was all there.

Hi Caesar,

Thanks for interesting post. Sure credibility of backtest on simulated data depends on how precise your synthetic data is and how quickly your signal changes.

For 1-yr momentum there is one story, and you may use less precise data, and for 5-days reversion – completely different story, and you need much better data to test this.

BTW, six figs. investment have OHLC data on volatility ETPs: https://sixfigureinvesting.com/2014/09/simulating-open-high-low-vxx-vixy-tvix-uvxy-xiv-svxy/, maybe you could use this to trade not on closes of the same day (which may be not that realistic, given wild nature of the instruments involved)

I am aware of the OHL simulated data but the amount of error he decribes is too much for me. The main thing I want to make sure people are clear is that the data may or may not work for you depending on the strategy. Just be careful using this data.

I can see when I am logged in as my WordPress admin but when I look at the site logged out I can’t see the search feature. I will have to look around and figure out how to get it back. Thanks for pointing this out.

hi cesar, did you build your own synthetic data to run your tests? i recently ran some tests using the data from six figures investing. although the results over the overlap period were qualitatively similar, good years were good and worse years were worse etc, quantitatively they were very different with variations of 40% or more at times. what do you think?

No, I used the data from Six Figure Investing. I found that it really depends on the strategy whether one can use this data or not.
