The story begins with the ruthless usurping the throne of Thessaly and murdering King Aristo . A prophecy warns Pelias that a child of Aristo—specifically a "one-sandaled man"—will eventually avenge the king. Twenty years later, Jason unknowingly saves Pelias from drowning, losing a sandal in the process.
