The sun barely peeked over the horizon as I pulled my Scania out of a cramped depot in Oslo. With the active, the familiar roads of Scandinavia had transformed into a silent, white wilderness. This wasn't just a skin; it felt like a different world where the asphalt was a memory buried under packed snow and treacherous ice.
The real challenge began on the highway. In version 1.36, the physics felt unforgiving. Every time I touched the brakes, the trailer nudged me, threatening to jackknife on the slick surface. I had to feather the throttle, watching the RPMs closely as the tires struggled for grip on the inclines. The "Clean Roads" option was off, meaning I was navigating deep tracks left by AI traffic—one wrong move and I’d be sliding toward the guardrail.
By midday, the "winter" lighting took over. The sun stayed low, casting long, blue shadows across the plains, making everything feel desolate yet incredibly peaceful. Visibility dropped as a light flurry started, the flakes dancing in my headlights.
As night fell over the Swedish border, the atmosphere turned haunting. The world narrowed down to the cone of my high beams reflecting off the frost. Every bridge felt like a gamble, and every turn required a prayer for traction. When I finally pulled into a rest stop, the truck covered in a layer of simulated grime and salt, the silence of the snowy woods was absolute.
