Emergency Call:

LGBTQ+ culture is not monolithic, but rather a vibrant, intersectional community with common themes: Understanding the Transgender Community - HRC

An umbrella term for people whose gender identity or expression differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

Individuals who experience their gender identity outside the traditional man/woman binary.

The transgender community and broader LGBTQ+ culture represent a diverse spectrum of gender identities, sexual orientations, and shared human experiences. While often grouped together, the "T" (transgender) is distinct from the "LGB" (lesbian, gay, bisexual) in that it focuses on gender identity—one's internal sense of being a man, woman, or another gender—rather than sexual attraction.

While LGBTQ+ is a useful umbrella, transgender needs and experiences are distinct from those of gay, lesbian, or bisexual people.

A transgender person can have any sexual orientation—a trans man can be gay, straight, or bisexual. 3. LGBTQ+ Cultural Identity and Community
