Despite being four years old, the Galaxy S9 series received a final "surprise" update in early 2022.
The Galaxy S9 series followed a standard (at the time) trajectory of support: : Released in 2018 with Android 8.0 Oreo .
: The update was identified by firmware versions such as G96xFXXUHFVB4 in Europe and G96xUSQU9FVB2 for carrier-locked models in the US.
: The devices received two major OS upgrades, ending officially on Android 10 with One UI 2.5 in late 2020.
: The core of this final deployment was the March 2022 Android security patch , which addressed over 50 vulnerabilities and included several bug fixes and stability improvements.
With official support ended, users still holding onto the S9 face several considerations:
: Following the final OS update, the series was moved from monthly to quarterly security updates for its final year of support.
